Somatic Movement

The gateway to your body-mind wisdom

Somatic movement is a combination of stretches, yoga postures and breathing exercises that can help release tension in the body, increase our presence and connection and assist with mindful awareness. It is considered a psycho-therapeutic “movement tool”, designed to improve emotional and physical integration.

“Somatic yoga is a trauma-informed yoga practice and is based on the principles of body and mind integration. Our mental and emotional states are reflected in our bodies. We can support healing by working directly with the body and mind and adjusting the way we relate to and inhabit our bodies.”

- Body and Soul

The term Somatic means ‘embodied’ or ‘of the body’.

We’ve all experienced tight and restricted movement in our muscles for many reasons such as habitual patterns, emotional stress, injuries or trauma. Small, slow and gentle movements are used to re-educate the brain so that it can relax and move these muscles more functionally.

I was completely drawn to this type of exercise when I stumbled across it a year ago. I decided to enrol in the course and get my certification. As I was progressing through the course, I could see how complimentary this would be alongside my guided meditation sessions. Personally, I didn’t realise how much my nervous system craved these deeply calming and relaxing movements. I decided to dive deeper into studying these techniques and now offer them as part of my classes and programs.

“I was able to move into a space that was deeply relaxing and meditative, whilst still being present in my physical body. I felt mental shifts and changes to my nervous system that I have never experienced in a yoga class before. Truly mesmerising and memorable.”

“Your inclusion of Somatic Movement Yoga with the meditation sessions have been an additional touch of magic! I am able to access the quietness from within; lifting the soul, healing the body, adjusting without effort, invigorating without words."
